Newfoundland Injury Lawyer Explains How Attorneys Are Paid

In this video, Newfoundland injury lawyer Ches Crosbie addresses this question. As he explains it, most personal injury attorneys are paid on a contingency-fee basis. That means if there is no cure, there is no pay for the lawyer. An attorney is paid from the proceeds of the settlement.
The percentage fee that is charged ranges among lawyers. In Newfoundland, the fee is generally 25 percent in car accident cases. At Ches Crosbie Barrister, we do things a little differently. We have a fee agreement that is progressive, and the fee is based on the stage of the case in which the settlement is received. For example, if discovery occurs, the fee is 30 percent.
