Residential Schools Labrador
Certification as a class action has been upheld by the Newfoundland and Labrador Court of Appeal. The class action involves 5,000 persons of Inuit, Innu and Métis ancestry who suffered cultural and physical abuse at five residential schools, four in Labrador and one in St. Anthony.
Assuming there is no attempt to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada, or such attempt is dismissed, the claims will go into the information gathering stage as the legal team prepares for a trial of the common issues.
