If you've been injured in a motor vehicle accident, your doctor has referred you for therapy, and you have private health coverage through work and Accident Benefits Coverage on your auto policy, your auto insurer is probably telling you that you have to use your own private health coverage to pay for therapy costs prior to accessing your Accident Benefits Coverage.
Why? The quick answer is--because it's the law.
Our legislation establishes an order in which policies of insurance have to be accessed in these situations. If you have private health coverage, medical expenses have to be paid through that insurance first. Accident Benefits Coverage is then available for accident-related medical expenses not covered by private health coverage.
