Moose: Newfoundland’s Walking Roadside Bombs
I heard a radio ad on VOCM recently by the Save Our People Action Committee saying moose are "Newfoundland's walking roadside bomb". Well, that's certainly a very fitting description - moose are responsible for a large number of collisions on our highways each year, resulting in innocent people being seriously injured or even killed.
In case you haven't heard the ad, the text version of it is below, or you can listen to the audio version here.
THE FOLLOWING IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE SAVE OUR PEOPLE ACTION COMMITTEE.
MOOSE ARE NEWFOUNDLAND'S WALKING ROADSIDE BOMBS. MOOSE COLLISIONS ARE HIGH - SEVEN HUNDRED EIGHTY-THREE last year - AND GETTING HIGHER. MOOSE ARE CAUSING LOVED ONES PARALYSIS, INJURIES AND DEATH. AND ALL ARE BURDENED WITH THE EXHORBITANT MEDICAL EXPENSES FROM MOOSE- COLLISIONS. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE. STUDIES PROVE THAT GOVERNMENT ERECTION OF MOOSE FENCING AND REDUCTION OF MOOSE DENSITIES ARE COST EFFECTIVE. THE SAVE OUR PEOPLE ACTION COMMITTEE IS ASKING NEWFOUNDLAND'S GOVERNMENT TO DO ITS JOB - TO PROTECT YOU, THE PEOPLE, FROM THESE LARGE BEASTS TERRORIZING INNOCENT DRIVERS. EVEN ACCIDENT LAWYER CHES CROSBIE AND HIS INJURED CLIENTS ARE SPEAKING UP - TO PROTECT YOU, THE CITIZENS. HELP FEND OFF THIS UNENDING TOLL OF DEATH AND PREVENTABLE INJURIES. GET INVOLVED TODAY - TALK TO YOUR M H A, AND SIGN THE PETITION AT TOO MANY MOOSE dot COM. THAT'S TOO MANY MOOSE DOT COM.

We are all aware of the problem with moose on the highway. The talk of putting up a fence is the stupidest idea i've ever heard.if you think a fence will stop a 2500 lb animal think again. problem is people don't have enough brains to slow down & ajust there driving at night !!!!!!!!! I'm a truck driver of 27 yrs & I see this all the time I'm limited to 105km an hr,people in cars, pickups, suv's,& so on pass me all the time 20 to 30 km an hour or higher, does not matter if it's day or night. If fences are put up to keep the animals in that would increase the number of people speeding would grow greatly knowing the animals are caged in.I'd say 99.9% of the accidents involving moose speed is involved. day or night does'nt matter, chances are greater at night because of visibilty.people don't realize these animals are harder to see at night & they can move very very quickly for such a large animal.
