Atlantic Lotto Immune from Consumer Protection Laws

The Piercey family and many others are seeking against Atlantic Lotto Corporation a monetary remedy and the elimination of harmful, deceptive and addictive features from VLT games.  In the first battle in the lawsuit, Atlantic Lotto persuaded the judge that ALC is a Crown agent and as such, is not subject to the ordinary consumer protection laws as contained in the Trade Practices Act.  The injury and harm caused by VLTs is incalculable, and the Pierceys have instructed Ches Crosbie Barristers to amend the Statement of Claim and proceed on alternative causes of action.  Further information is available in the press release below, and in the decision of Justice Dymond which we have also posted below.
